South Zagoria, Republic of Chernarus
The world has grown silent--
What began in 2015 as a flu-like outbreak quickly became humanity’s downfall. The illness didn't kill, but turned the infected into mindless, violent husks. Radiating heat and rage, no longer themselves, their trembling skin visibly pale and black. Veins bursting from all their appendages, and their eyes hollow and darting.
Hospitals, police stations, schools, and entire cities fell one by one, overwhelmed by the infected. As the outbreak spread, desperate efforts to stop it began.
Many nations and organizations formed what were coalitions, task forces, and research committees, to study, catalog and plan for the brutal decades ahead. Only a handful remained, forced underground, resorting to increasingly ruthless methods in their search for a cure. But in the end, science failed. No vaccine. No salvation. Only survival. A new law became the way of the land, all land.
Early Spring 2025
Now, a decade later, whispers spread of Chernarus—a forgotten land on the Green Sea, rich in resources and untouched by human hands. But entry is perilous. The region remains under Aegis, an autonomous defense network powered by the last reserves of its subterranean nuclear facilities. Anti-air batteries strike anything that flies, while toxic gas and automated turrets purge the land of infected and intruders alike.
For years, only a handful of survivors scraped by in Eastern Europe, making Chernarus a rare jewel in an otherwise barren wasteland. But now, as word spreads, more come—seeking refuge, power, or a chance to rebuild.
With every new arrival, resources dwindle, tensions rise, and the struggle for survival begins anew.

Governments collapsed. Supply chains crumbled. Desperate to contain the spread, nations turned to nuclear and chemical strikes. But instead of salvation, they sealed civilization’s fate. Riots and war followed, dividing the remnants of humanity into fractured tribes, willing to kill for survival.
